X-radiation (composed of X-rays) is a form of electromagnetic radiation. X-rays have a wavelength in the range of 10 to 0.01 nanometers, corresponding to frequencies in the range 30 petahertz to 30 exahertz (3 × 10 Hz to 3 × 10 Hz) and energies in the range 120 eV to 120 keV. They are shorter in wavelength than UV rays. In many languages, X-radiation is called Röntgen radiation after Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, who is generally credited as their discoverer, and who had called them X-rays to signify an unknown type of radiation. X-rays are primarily used for diagnostic radiography and crystallography. As a result, the term X-ray is metonymically used to refer to a radiographic image produced using this method, in addition to the method itself. X-rays are a form of ionizing radiation and as such can be dangerous. X-rays from about 0.12 to 12 keV are classified as soft X-rays, and from about 12 to 120 keV as hard X-rays, due to their penetrating abilities. The distinction between X-rays and gamma rays has changed in recent decades. Originally, the electromagnetic radiation emitted by X-ray tubes had a longer wavelength than the radiation emitted by radioactive nuclei (gamma rays). So older literature distinguished between X- and gamma radiation on the basis of wavelength, with radiation shorter than some arbitrary wavelength, such as 10 m, defined as gamma rays. However, as shorter wavelength continuous spectrum "X-ray" sources such as linear accelerators and longer wavelength "gamma ray" emitters were discovered, the wavelength bands largely overlapped. The two types of radiation are now usually defined by their origin: X-rays are emitted by electrons outside the nucleus, while gamma rays are emitted by the nucleus. From Wikipedia under the

I want to go to college to be a radiographer, radiologist, but I want to know before I make my decision if there's a difference between a radiographer and and x-ray technician. Thanks for the help. Asked by dreamer_obbsesser_changer - Wed Jan 21 11:39:17 2009 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments A. First, a radiologist is a doctor and should not be included in this question. An x-ray technician is not a registered radiologic technologist and performs x-rays on selected anatomical sites. These people are limited in what they can do, where they can work, and how much they make. A registered radiologic technologist (radiographer) is the person who works in hospitals. Yeah already tired of those career evaluation exams that take hours to complete. Just want to focus on x ray technican. Your imput is appreciated as I try to make career choices here. Asked by Rex D - Sat Dec 22 19:54:24 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. The correct term is radiologic technologist (we do more than just regular x-rays and technician is demeaning). Q. I have recently had a second x-ray to look at my thoracic scoliosis and was not given a degree of curve by the radiologist. He said that it is not needed! Is there somehow I can get the measurement another way? I am getting very frustrated with the way I am being dismissed by the medical profession. Asked by snaily - Sun Jun 24 06:28:07 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Ask your referring doctor or chiropractor to ask the radiologist via phone call or fax for the degree of scoliosis. It is actually very easy to get that number, so I am unsure why the radiologist refused. Patients are more easily refused than another medical professional...unfortunat e, but true. Best wishes...
