From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. X-radiation (composed of X-rays) is a form of electromagnetic radiation. X-rays have a wavelength in the range of 0.01 to 10 nanometers, corresponding to frequencies in the range 30 petahertz to 30 exahertz (3 × 10 Hz to 3 × 10 Hz) and energies in the range 120 eV to 120 keV. They are shorter in wavelength than UV rays and longer than gamma rays. In many languages, X-radiation is called Röntgen radiation, after Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, who is generally credited as their discoverer, and who had named them X-rays to signify an unknown type of radiation. Correct spelling of X-ray(s) in the English language includes the variants x-ray(s) and X ray(s). XRAY is used as a communications code word for the letter x. X-rays from about 0.12 to 12 keV (10 to 0.10 nm wavelength) are classified as "soft" X-rays, and from about 12 to 120 keV (0.10 to 0.01 nm wavelength) as "hard" X-rays, due to their penetrating abilities. Hard X-rays can penetrate solid objects, and their largest use is to take images of the inside of objects in diagnostic radiography and crystallography. As a result, the term X-ray is metonymically used to refer to a radiographic image produced using this method, in addition to the method itself. By contrast, soft X-rays can hardly be said to penetrate matter at all; for instance, the attenuation length of 600 eV (~ 2 nm) x-rays in water is less than 1 micrometer. X-rays are a form of ionizing radiation, and exposure to them can be a health hazard. The distinction between X-rays and gamma rays has changed in recent decades. Originally, the electromagnetic radiation emitted by X-ray tubes had a longer wavelength than the radiation emitted by radioactive nuclei (gamma rays). Older literature distinguished between X- and gamma radiation on the basis of wavelength, with radiation shorter than some arbitrary wavelength, such as 10 m, defined as gamma rays. However, as shorter wavelength continuous spectrum "X-ray" sources such as linear accelerators and longer wavelength "gamma ray" emitters were discovered, the wavelength bands largely overlapped. The two types of radiation are now usually distinguished by their origin: X-rays are emitted by electrons outside the nucleus, while gamma rays are emitted by the nucleus. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License How can you go from a limited X Ray Tech to a Full Technician? Q. I am going to start a program soon for a Limited X Ray Techninican/ Back Office Medical Assistant. The more I've researched the less this sounds like a good idea. I live near San Diego and haven't found many X Ray schools. Does anyone know where I would go to get the complete licenesing after I get the limited scope? Thanks In advance... Also I am paying about 23,000 for this program which is a year long. Does this seem reasonable? Asked by tortorconley - Mon Jun 9 13:07:09 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. An x-ray technician is a limited permit tech. I am in California, and we having limited permit techs, though I have never worked for a facility which hired limited permit techs. This means that there are many x-ray exams that they cannot perform. Limited techs are generally licensed to do only extremity x-rays (arms, legs, feet, hands etc) or chest x-rays, for example. I wouldn't waste my time or money on a limited tech program. A radiologic technologist can use the title RT and has graduated from an accredited program, and can LEGALLY perform any exam involving radiation. RTs do more than just x-rays of bones. We do fluoroscopy studies (involving the intestinal tract and barium), arthrograms (assisting the radiologist with injecting… [cont.] Answered by Lissacal - Mon Jun 9 15:48:43 2008 What is a good job prior to becoming an x-ray tech? Q. I'm currently enrolled in a Radiography program looking to become an X-ray technologist. I will graduate in about a year and half, and am wondering what would be a good job now that will look good on my resume when I graduate? Asked by John - Mon Mar 16 13:59:22 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. While I was in Xray school I worked in the ER as a registrar. Also, some hospitals hire student techs after your first year. I wouldn't worry about your resume, as long as you pass your boards you should not have trouble finding a job. gc Answered by xxxrayguy - Mon Mar 16 19:25:48 2009 Where is the closest x-ray tech program or school to riverside california?
