Pain management (also called pain medicine) is the medical discipline concerned with the relief of pain. Types of painAcute pain, such pain resulting from trauma, often has a reversible cause and may require only transient measures and correction of the underlying problem. In contrast, chronic pain often results from conditions that are difficult to diagnose and treat, and that may take a long time to reverse. Some examples include cancer, neuropathy, and referred pain. Often, pain pathways (nociceptors) are set up that continue to transmit the sensation of pain even though the underlying condition or injury that originally caused pain has been healed. In such situations, the pain itself is frequently managed separately from the underlying condition of which it is a symptom, or the goal of treatment is to manage the pain with no treatment of any underlying condition (e.g. if the underlying condition has resolved or if no identifiable source of the pain can be found). Asked by Jacks Mommy - Wed Oct 29 16:37:40 2008 - - 12 Answers - 0 Comments A. i wouldn't worry about making this decision right now. when you're in labor, you will know if you need pain medication or not, and if just a little is going to be sufficient, or if you need the epidural. most women don't make their final decision until they are in labor, and those who do make the decision prior to labor often change their minds. Q. I am taking Darvocet-n 100, I had surgery on Monday to remove Endometriosis. Today has to be the worst (painful) yet so I took a dose of pain meds just 1 hour after another dose. I am clammy, my throat is numb, can anyone help without me calling 911? I appreciate everyones advice. I did call the ER and they gave me some simple advice. I am feeling 1000x better now! Thank you all!! :) Asked by shroomdaisy359 - Thu Mar 13 21:07:15 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. Darvocet is a very dangerous opioid to overdose on. Even though its potency is very low (it is even weaker than codeine), it has a lot of non-opiate side-effects that can include seizures. However, you have not taken a serious overdose. You have just taken a double dose from what I gather. STOP at there. Do not take anymore. If you have stomach pains, drink a glass of cold water and lie down on your side. If you develop breathing difficulty, you have to call 911. Because of the risk of seizures from overdosing on this drug, I strongly suggest you go to the hospital. In general, a double dose of an opioid will not kill you, but in Darvocet's case, it has too many non-opiate side-effects so I strongly suggest you go to the hospital.
