How will Nuclear Medicine careers in the future look?
Q. I was planning to go into Nuclear Medicine but the medical director the school I planned to go to said that Nuclear Medicine might not be the best thing now. Sure pay is great but job held over the years were small. They might put nuclear medicine in the hands of say, medical assistants or sonographers to do it. Would anyone know if Nuclear Medicine would be a good choice for plenty of jobs after i graduate in around 3 year? What do you think about radiology?

A. It looks fascinating. Stick with whatever you want to do. No training is wasted. From an old UK BMJ... But your medical director could have a point (the BMJ was from 2004 I think)

What medicine or such can help a women during period for pain?

A. ibuprofen, aka advil or something like that, is the best for cramps and other things like headaches. if she is in so much pain that she feels like she might die or something, like if the pain is that extreme every time she has her period, she should definitely see a gynecologist.

What medicine has the side effect of causing increased body heat?
Q. Long story but what medicine would casue an increased body temperature? Like warm to the touch.
Asked by Mish B - Mon Dec 29 14:40:22 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Quite a few. Caffeine (we don't normally consider that a medicine per se) can cause increase in body temp as a function of increased heartbeat. Pseudoephedrine can cause similar effects. So can antipsychotics, via a rare but serious side effect called neuroleptic malignant syndrome whereby the person develops muscle rigidity and high body temp.

What medicine would you give to a 6 month old that started off sneezing and now has a runny nose/stuffy nose?
Q. Yesterday my daughter started sneezing all day long. Last night her nose was stuffy. Today its running and she still sneezes some. She doesn't have fever. I am thinking it may be allergies. When a baby teethes do they sneeze and etc? I may call her doctor tomorrow. She just gets so uncomfortable when she sleeps, she woke up all night long. Does anyone have any suggestions on medicine or if they think its allergies? Thanks for all the help!

A. I have the same problem with my 7 month old as well. He started out with sneezing, then the runny nose, then the constant congestion and coughing. Its going on two weeks now and still not gone. There's no medicine you can actually give. This is what I do: 1. Saline on a q-tip just inside the nose 2. Johnson and Johnson Vapor Baby wash 3. Elevate the crib mattress so that they sleep on an incline 4. Use a nasal aspirator 5. Bring him in the bathroom when you take a hot steamy shower 6. Use a vaporizer 7. Baby Vapor Rub on the chest and around the nose

What medicine is highly effective in getting rid of sebhorreic dermititis?
Q. I have an annoying condition of sebhorriec dermititis. Now that it's getting cold, the condition is worstening! I'm really tired of going through this EVERY winter. I've all ready tried selenium sulfite 2.5% and i didn't see any results! Plz is there a medicine that is highly effective (for brown skin people) in curing this annoying condition?
Asked by Jibreel H - Sun Oct 25 08:51:16 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The main cause of seborrheic dermatitis is overreaction of the immune system. Keeping it in a balanced state is the key point of battling this disease. I try to eat healthy food and avoid stress as much as I can. After using number of prescription drugs I've turned to the natural treatments. Now I use anti-psoriasis herbal remedies from serenaskin.com, which aim at the root of the disease - the immune system, and are steroid-free. After about 2 weeks of using ointment and spray my skin has been cleared up and now I just continue with anti-psoriasis extract, which controls the immune system. My skin has been clear for months now. It is the only treatment I have found that provides me complete relief when I use it as directed.

How does a depression medicine work for anxiety?
Q. I have Social anxiety. My doctor prescribed Zoloft which is a depression medicine. I am just curious, how does the same medicine also treats social anxiety???
Asked by vanilla bean - Mon Dec 7 13:47:03 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. They go hand in hand. You get anxious about something and after some time it becomes depressed over that same thing. In both cases, when the nerve ends send messages to the next nerve thru a gap, these messages don't get there, they sort of bounce back to their origin. This is what's called a chemical imbalance in the brain. These messages are sent via chemicals 'jumping' from one nerve end to the other. If they don't get 'absorbed' by the second nerve, we become depressed and probably more anxious about more things in life.

Is medicine affected if a little water gets mixed into the bottle?
Q. My son is taking antibiotics for an ear infection. I use a syringe to give him the medicine. A little water stays in it when i was it, and has gotten into the medicine bottle. Will this alter the affectiveness of the medicine?
Asked by roxy - Fri Oct 23 14:24:28 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It can. It can water down the medication so that when you give the prescribed dose, some of that is water and he's not getting the right dose. Just take the syringe apart after you use it and dry it before using it again.

What pain relief medicine should i buy for extracting my wisdom teeth?
Q. I just extracted two of my bottom wisdom teeth and i the doctor didn't give me a prescription for pain relief medicine. Can you guys recommend what i should get?
Asked by Peter - Mon Jun 18 18:53:26 2007 - - 13 Answers - 1 Comments
A. As a dentist myself I always recommend Motrin (Ibuprofen), this is the best Over The Counter pain reliever as it will not only help with pain but will also help with inflammation. I usually recommend that my patients take between 600-800mg for ages over 18. Also try an ice pack, this will help numb the area affected and help with inflammation as well. If the pain becomes severe you may want to consider calling your dentists emergency number for advice or to have him/her call you in some narcotic pain medication. Good luck and feel better soon!

A. Pepto Bismol makes chewable tablets that kids can take to relieve a variety of stomach problems, I'm sure you've heard the commercial jingle (nausea, heartburn, indigestion, upset stomach, diarrhea... hey, Pepto Bismol). Rolaids and Tums also make chewable antacid tablets, that have a different active ingredient and only treat indigestion/acid reflux.

What does chinese medicine have to say about lack of emotion?
Q. Google search really didn't help. I want to know what Chinese medicine has to say about having a lack of emotional connectivity? I've been like this for my whole life I think. What does it mean, and is it helpable?
Asked by MeltandFlow - Wed Jun 9 01:05:51 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It's not about medicine. Chinese people keep emotion to family and close friends. Outwardly they don't know who you are, they don't know what connections you have. They don't tell you what they think. 4000 years of history has taught the Chinese... things change as easily as the wind. When you show a strong opinion you may find yourself swinging from an end of a rope blowing in that wind.

Q. During allergy season, I will always catch a cold. What is a medicine or tips to stay cold-free?
Asked by garrett s - Mon Mar 8 18:40:39 2010 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Vitamin C in the form of calcium ascorbate or sodium ascorbate. This is the active ingredient. Make sure you buy high-quality so that you really are getting enough. Just give yourself a boost with this. Alternatively, if you know a good homeopath, mine prescribes "flu drops" for me. All it does is boost your T cells which fight things like colds etc.
